Raise A Village LA is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, committed to providing technical support, housing and intervention programs for recently incarcerated individuals. Raise A Village LA is dedicated to providing information, education, leadership and advocacy for its clients and the Long Beach community through successful and healthy reintegration and community safety.
Raise A Village LA contributes to community safety through providing support and leadership to help ensure the safe and healthy transition of individuals from prison to the community.
In California, over 40,000 individuals leave prison each year. Less than 15% are picked up by friends and family. Most are provided only $200, and have to use this money to pay for clothing, the bus ticket home, housing, and other essentials. The majority of individuals leave prison without a plan or much practical knowledge of how to successfully reintegrate back into the communities they came from.
Raise A Village wholeheartedly believes that reentry is a critical point in helping to ensure the success of recently released individuals as well as helping to prevent recidivism. All of our resources were developed in response to conversations with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, and address the practical issues facing people leaving prison.
